Redan vid <strong>1 000\u20131 200 mg under kort tid<\/strong> kan allvarliga symtom p\u00e5 koffein\u00adf\u00f6rgiftning uppst\u00e5 \u2013 exempelvis hj\u00e4rtklappning, kramper, hallucinationer och i extrema fall hj\u00e4rtstillest\u00e5nd. <strong>D\u00f6dliga doser ligger kring 10\u201314 gram koffein<\/strong> (150\u2013200 mg per kilo kroppsvikt), men rapporterade d\u00f6dsfall har skett vid l\u00e4gre niv\u00e5er, ibland kring 3\u20135 gram, s\u00e4rskilt n\u00e4r koffein intagits som pulver eller tabletter.<\/p>\n<p>Symtom p\u00e5 \u00f6verdos kan b\u00f6rja redan vid 500\u2013600 mg hos k\u00e4nsliga individer. Vanliga tecken \u00e4r rastl\u00f6shet, oro, darrningar, s\u00f6mnl\u00f6shet, illam\u00e5ende och kraftigt f\u00f6rh\u00f6jd puls. I sv\u00e5ra fall kan koffein utl\u00f6sa psykosliknande tillst\u00e5nd, kramper eller rubbningar i hj\u00e4rtrytmen. Barn, ungdomar, \u00e4ldre, gravida och personer med hj\u00e4rtproblem eller nedsatt leverfunktion \u00e4r s\u00e4rskilt k\u00e4nsliga. En tesked rent pulver (~1,2 g) kan vara n\u00e4ra den akuta toxicitetsgr\u00e4nsen.
